Our state-of-the-art technology and extensive experience in dentistry allows us to create the most comfortable and painless experience for your root canal procedure. If you’re experiencing severe tooth pain or any of the symptoms mentioned below, please contact our Bozeman dentist today to find out if a root canal is right for you.

Do You Need a Root Canal?

While there can sometimes be no physical symptoms present, here are a few of the common warning signs and symptoms that indicate it may be time to contact your Bozeman dentist for root canal treatment:

  • Mild to severe toothaches and/or sharp pain within the mouth
  • Red, swollen or tender gums
  • Swelling due to an abscess on the gums (or pimple-like bump)
  • Prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
  • Cracked, chipped, decayed or damaged teeth
  • Darkening or discoloration of the tooth

It’s important to note that a toothache can also cause very serious headaches that patients commonly disassociate with the original tooth pain. If you’re feeling any pain within your tooth or gums, please contact a certified and licensed dentist for a proper diagnosis.

What is a Root Canal?

A root canal is a common endodontic procedure used to replace the soft nerve tissue within the core of a tooth that has been badly damaged or decayed. The inside of a tooth consists of soft tissue referred to as pulp, which contains nerves and connective tissue that extend down to the tooth root. When the pulp becomes damaged or infected, it will need to be cleaned out in order to prevent damage to the tooth root or structure.

The root canal procedure involves carefully removing and cleaning out the inside of the tooth. It will then be completely sealed using a dental crown or filling to reduce the risk of infection and prevent further decay. While root canals were commonly associated with pain in the past, the treatment actually offers a nearly pain-free experience for our patients. To ensure minimal discomfort throughout the entirety of the procedure, a local anesthetic may be used.
